The Township of Washington Police Department is informing our residents that today January 8, 2024 between the hours of 10:20 AM  and 1:30 PM today, a house on Van Emburgh Avenue was burglarized while the resident was not home.  Entry was gained through an open garage door. The actor(s) then forced the interior garage door into the basement of the home.  The actor(s) ransacked the house. Proceeds are unknown at this time.
The incident is being investigated by the Township of Washington Police Department along with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
We want to remind residents that home burglaries occur more often during the winter months/holiday season, especially due to the fact there are fewer daylight hours.  This gives burglars more time to be concealed by darkness. Burglars are opportunists. Eliminate opportunities for them by locking all doors/windows/gates.  Also, secure your vehicles as burglars will attempt to gain entry, and steal them if they can.  Please make sure if you are not home, have lights on timers and deliveries stopped or redirected elsewhere.  The idea is to make it appear someone is home.
Any questions/concerns or information on this manner, please contact our Police Desk at 201-664-1140.
