Official Press Release –September 20, 2026 – Weapons Charge

On September 20, 2026, at approximately 4:00 a.m., a Township Police Officer observed a boat trailer being towed without a license plate on Linwood Avenue in the Township. The Officer conducted a motor vehicle stop.  While speaking with the driver, the Officer observed what appeared to be the butt of a firearm inside the vehicle. Township Police subsequently confirmed that the item was a firearm, identified as a loaded Ruger semi-automatic pistol.  The subject, William Bradley Smith who resides in Georgia, was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and received multiple motor vehicle summonses.  The firearm was checked and was not reported stolen at the time of the investigation.  The subject was lodged in the Bergen County Jail.
