On Friday, June 13, 2025, the Washington Township Police Department participated in the Bergen County Chief For A Day event. The 2025 Washington Township Chief For A Day was 11-year old David Dmitrievsky, an elementary school student.

David was picked up by members of the Washington Township Police Department and given a lights and sirens escort from his home to his school where he was greeted by his classmates.

From school a lights and siren escort was completed to the Washington Township Police Department where he met with other members of the police department. David took the oath of office and was sworn in as Chief! He promptly took a seat at his new desk in his new office, then had doughnuts, bagels and cookies with his fellow officers.



After a tour of the police department, David was driven to Hackensack to meet other towns Chief’s For Day, where approximately 30 other towns participated. David inspected police vehicles and took a liking to some of the sports cars on display, and even was given a complimentary ride to the venue in Teaneck that offered food, a ceremony and video games to complete the day.
