The Washington Township Police Department successfully held Safety Township Class of 2025! This program is modeled after “Safety Town”, which is a safety education program designed to teach areas of traffic safety and public safety to 5–6-year-old children in a free community program. The Washington Township Police worked in conjunction with the Washington Township Library/Municipal Alliance.
Today our Safety Town Trainees were able to learn about Washington Township Police Departments Patrol Vehicles, right before the rain started! They learned about what equipment we carry in our vehicles, and what we use it for. The Patrol vehicles were a hit as our trainees explored the vehicles up-close! Just as the storm came, the trainees went inside and learned about Stranger Danger – the difference between good strangers and bad strangers. They learned what to say if they need to call 911. We spoke about what information they should know at their age, like their address, parents phone numbers etc. We even went over some Summertime Safety tips! Below are some pictures of today’s visit from the Washington Township Police!
Next up the Washington Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps stopped by! The children were able to learn about First Aid! The Trainees saw firsthand how the Washington Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps handles calls and what equipment they use! Ambulance Corp members brought a stretcher out of the ambulance and the trainees learned about safety equipment that is inside the ambulance and what is done when people are injured and/or sick. All the Trainees made their own first aid kits with help from members of the Ambulance Corp! Special Thanks to the Washington Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the following attending members, especially Captain Robert Raybe who made this all possible. Thank you to Members Rich and Eugene for being in attendance. Thank you for taking your time to attend today to teach our Trainees all about First Aid. The program closed with a visit from the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department! The trainees were able to learn about Fire Safety, calling 911 what to do when there is a fire. The Fire Department brought in some tools to show us what they use on Fire calls. The trainees were shown what a Firefighter looks like ready to run into a fire! The sun was able to pop out and the trainees were able to check out Engine 43. Special Thanks to the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department and attending members Chief Zach Miros, Deputy Chief Frank Aiello, Firefighter Tim, Firefighter Orion, Firefighter Maynes and Retired Firefight Ed Culbert. The program concluded with each Trainee receiving a Certificate and a Safety Town Badge!
Special Thanks to the Township of Washington Municipal Alliance and Township of Washington Public Library Director Laura Rifkin who partners with the Washington Township Police Department for this program! This could not be made possible without our Volunteers from the Washington Township Fire Department and the Washington Township Ambulance Corps! Township Police also want to Thank all the parents that brought their children out and allowed them to be a part of this great program! Please check back January 2026 for the date for Safety Township 2026 Class #4!
