Every 15 minutes in the United Stated there is a motor vehicle accident involving an operator who was impaired due to drugs or alcohol. Out of those accidents, approximately 10,000 lives are lost each year. On Wednesday June 10th the Township of Washington Police Department hosted a demonstration in conjunction with the Police Departments, Fire Departments and Ambulance Corps from both the Township of Washington and Westwood at the Westwood High School to raise awareness for sober driving ahead of the prom and graduation events for the senior class. Students observed a simulated single car motor vehicle accident with where the driver was impaired, field tested and subsequently arrested while Fire Departments and EMS personnel from both towns worked to treat and extricate the remaining two occupants before being transported away from the scene.
