The Township of Washington Police Department would like to advise all residents that mailbox thefts are on the rise throughout Bergen County, especially during the holiday season.  The Township of Washington Police Department strongly urges all residents to be cautious when dropping mail, especially checks, in United States Postal mailboxes.

It is usually a safe bet to drop your mail off in the Postal mailboxes at the Township of Washington Post Office, which is located in the rear of the Washington Town Center (261R Pascack Road in the Township of Washington)

The Township of Washington Police would like to offer a few tips to help avoid your mail being taken…

-Go inside the post office to drop off mail

-Take note of collection times, final pickups are typically around 5:00 PM.  After that, the mail isn’t picked up until the next business day

-Try to avoid dropping mail off over holiday weekends, or nights before holidays, when it may accumulate.

-When writing a check, make sure to use a pen with pigmented ink (pigmented ink is harder to alter/erase)

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Township of Washington Police at 201-664-1140.
