The Washington Township Police Department handles authorizing/approving Door to Door Solicitor/Canvasser Permits. Every individual that is given a Permit must display it at all times. Please see an example of what the permit looks like below:
Solicitation without a valid permit in Washington Township is prohibited. This shall not pertain to any persons representing organizations sponsored by the Township of Washington: Candidates for election to any Municipal, County, State, or National office, Candidates for election to any board of election and persons assisting such individuals for election; and, any civic organization, while soliciting in uniform, are exempt. Also exempt are all persons engaged in religious proselytizing, political speech, or the distribution of political pamphlets. Those in violation may be issued a summons. Please be aware that the solicitors that are listed above that are exempt from obtaining a permit may not have a copy of the “No Knock” list as they do not have to apply for a Permit, therefor they may not have this list.
