From the Westwood Board of Ed:
We are writing to inform you that Washington Elementary School will have an early dismissal today, Tuesday November 14, 2023.
Upon arrival this morning, two teachers noticed an odor in a single classroom that seemed to be emanating from the heating unit. School administration decided to relocate classes taking place in that room. Dr. Mortimer was notified and she consulted with the Bergen County Department of Education, the Township of Washington Administrator and the Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission, which is currently on site at the school.
Out of an abundance of caution, the school has reached out to the Bergen County Hazmat Unit, which is also en route to the school. They will do a full investigation, and the results will be shared with staff and parents when it is available. The representative from Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission does not believe there is imminent danger to staff or students. The steps the school are taking at this time are precautionary in nature. No other students or staff members have expressed feeing unwell.
Additional district administrators and the Township of Washington Police Department are present to assist with an early dismissal. The School asks you pick up your child at 12:50pm at their usual dismissal location. If you are unable to arrive at 12:50pm, your child will be in a safe location. Please contact your child’s teacher if someone other than yourself will be coming to pick up your child.
We appreciate your understanding any further updates will be disseminated via School District Administration.
