Washington Township Police were called to a residence on Fern Street, on the east side of town, early this morning following a report of a stolen vehicle.

The investigation determined that the vehicle was taken between approximately 5:00 a.m.and 5:30 a.m. It was reported that the keys had been left inside the vehicle at the time of the theft.

Motor vehicle thefts are crimes of opportunity, where an unlocked vehicle with keys is readily available, and makes the vehicle an easy target. Do not give these criminals the opportunity to take your vehicle.   Below please find some tips to make sure you wake up to your vehicle:

  • Always remove keys from your vehicle
  • Lock your vehicle every time, even when parked at home
  • Avoid leaving valuables in plain view
  • Park in a well-lit area whenever possible
  • Consider installing or activating vehicle alarms or anti-theft devices

The Washington Township Police Department continues to investigate this incident and asks anyone with information to contact the department.  Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of motor vehicle theft
