The Township of Washington Police Department is informing our residents that today December 31, 2025 around 4:50 AM, a house on Julia Court which is on our West Side of town was entered while the resident was home.  Entry was gained by a masked actor forcing a window in the rear of the house open.  Once inside, the masked actor was allegedly looking for car keys but backed out of the residence when he heard the homeowner.  It is reported that the actor left through the same window he entered the house from.  Three masked actors in total were allegedly involved and were last seen getting into a dark colored four door sedan heading towards Linwood Avenue.  The incident is being investigated by the Township of Washington Police Department along with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
We want to remind residents that home burglaries occur more often during the winter months/holiday season, especially due to the fact there are fewer daylight hours.  This gives burglars more time to be concealed by darkness as they are opportunists. Eliminate opportunities for them by locking all doors/windows/gates.  Secure your vehicles and remove keys/key fobs as burglars will attempt to gain entry and steal them if they can.  Please make sure if you are not home, have lights on timers and deliveries stopped or redirected elsewhere.  The idea is to make it appear someone is home.  If you have an alarm, make sure it is armed.  If you have cameras, make sure they are in working order.
Any questions/concerns or information on this manner, please contact our Police Desk at 201-664-1140.
